The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Jammu and Kashmir is entrusted with the responsibility of Information dissemination related to the Union Territory of J&K. It serves as a bridge between the government, citizens, media and other stakeholders, helping to foster greater transparency, engagement and understanding. The Department works through multiple mediums such as Print, Radio, Audio-Visual, Digital & Social Media to keep the people well-informed about the policies, programmes and activities of the government.
The DIPR also works to ensure that the media is kept abreast of key developments in the Union Territory by providing them with timely updates, press conferences, releases, press notes and other information. This is to ensure that information is accurately reported. , culture, economy & tourism in Jammu & Kashmir. The Department has pioneered the use of contemporary digital communication & social Media through its presence on all major platforms. Through this new-age communication strategy, the Department has launched the popular programmes “The Beats of J&K” (a studio based music platform) & “InspireGenZ” (a talk show) both of which are aimed at engaging with youth.The Information Department at the UT level is headed by the Administrative Secretary and the Directorate of Information and Public Relations is headed by the Director Information. The Departmental work is carried out through the Directorate and Joint Directorates which have multiple units such as Public Relation, Films, Photo, Field Publicity & Cultural and Exhibition Units at both Jammu and Srinagar. The department also has a Bureau at New Delhi which covers the meetings and events of the government and liaises with the central government offices and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The department also has an extensive network of District Information Centres (DICs) at the district headquarters and Tehsil Information Centres for citizen-communication, information dissemination & governmental engagement at grass root levels.
