The Powers and duties of the officers and employees in the Directorate of Information are as under

  1. The Director Information & Public Relations is Major head of the department who exercises the overall administrative and financial control of the department in the State. All the decisions as delegated under rules are taken by him.
  2. Chairman, State Level Departmental Promotion Committee.
  3. Chairman, State Level Purchase Committee.
  4. Chairman, Committee of Reclassification of Newspapers.

  1. To supervise the functioning of Bureau office at New Delhi and to co-ordinate in disseminating information with regard to developmental and other activities at national level.
  2. Functions as liaison officer of the State.

  1. To supervise and monitor the Administrative matters and the matters pertaining to Public Relations.
  2. To monitor the disseminating of information to media.

  1. Divisional Head of the respective Divisions.
  2. To ensure media coverage of the important event of VIPs and other senior functionaries of the government in their respective Divisions.
  3. To release government advertisements in the newspapers of their respective divisions.
  4. Chairmen Divisional Level Departmental Promotion Committees.
  5. Administrative / service matters of the employees in their respective Divisions.
  6. Members of various Departmental State Level Committees.

  1. Divisional Head of the respective Divisions.
  2. To ensure media coverage of the important event of VIPs and other senior functionaries of the government in their respective Divisions.
  3. To release government advertisements in the newspapers of their respective divisions.
  4. Chairmen Divisional Level Departmental Promotion Committees.
  5. Administrative / service matters of the employees in their respective Divisions.
  6. Members of various Departmental State Level Committees.

  1. To liaise with media persons.
  2. To ensure and monitor the media coverage of VIPs/ government functions.
  3. Release/distribution of press notes.
  4. To supervise the maintenance of Reference and Research Units.

  1. To monitor/supervise the functioning of Film and Photo Units.

  1. To organize Film and Photo coverage of events.
  2. The Film Unit provide the footage based on daily functions to the electronic media. The Unit also compiles half an hour sponsored programme on current affairs and developmental programmes called “Aks-E-Parwaz” being telecast on Door Darshan Kendra Srinagar five days a week.
  3. To organize the Photo coverage of government functions.

  1. To organize Film and Photo coverage of events.

  1. To supervise the publication of departmental magazines and periodicals being published in English, Urdu, Dogri, Hindi, Kashmiri and Ladakhi languages.
  2. To promote literature in the respective languages by providing appropriate space in these publications.

  1. To monitor / supervise the activities of the Photo Units.

  1. To monitor / supervise the functioning of Film Units.

  1. To organize Cultural events in the State particularly during national/state functions.
  2. To collaborate with private organizations of performing Artists.
  3. Encourage literary poetic activities to promote Cultural ethos in the State.

  1. To monitor the installation of Public Address System at government functions, during session of the State Legislature and Oath ceremonies of Constitutional dignitaries.

  1. Officer In-charge at District Headquarter.
  2. Coverage of functions at the District Level.
  3. Issue / distribution of Press Release at the District Head Quarter.
  4. Installation of Public Address System of government functions in the District.
  5. To organize Cultural programmes etc. in the District

  1. To arrange the videography of government functions and VIPs of the government and provide it to electronic media for coverage.

  1. To organize photographs of the functions and events organized across the state and to make these available to the print media on daily basis.

  1. All Accounts matters including preparation of budget estimates.
  2. Audit paras / Audit notes.
  3. Reconcilation of Accounts.
  4. Exercise the drawing and disbursing powers in the Directorate.
  5. Release of budget under Non-Plan.
  6. Member State Level Departmental Purchase Committee.

  1. All Administrative and service matters.
  2. Member Secretary State Level Departmental Promotion Committee.
  3. Member Secretary State Level Departmental Purchase committee.
  4. To supervise the Administration, General, Purchase sections.

  1. All Administrative and service matters.
  2. Member Secretary State Level Departmental Promotion Committee.
  3. Member Secretary State Level Departmental Purchase committee.
  4. To supervise the Administration, General, Purchase sections.

  1. To Edit the departmental publications.
  2. To collect the material/feedback/articles for publication in the departmental magazines.

  1. To monitor departmental stocks/stores.
  2. Member of State Level Departmental Purchase Committee.

The Information Officers/ Assistant Information Officers are deployed with all the Ministries for media coverage of the government functions of the Hon’ble Chief Minister/ Hon’ble Speaker, Legislative Assembly/ Hon’ble Chairman Legislative Council/ Hon’ble Cabinet Ministers/ Ministers of State and other dignitaries of the State.
